Rest + Relaunch:The Strategic Move Nobody Talks About
Four years in business, + I've been chasing the same goal since year one: take the last weeks of the year off. Not "sort of off." Not "lemme check in real quick." Not "well, if the money's right..." Truly, fully OFF!
This year? Fourth time's the charm. I'm finally doing it!
So, I’m divorced with 50/50 parenting time, so that means I get half the holiday break with my kids (YAY!!!) + then I get the other half solo. The beast? I'm kid-free for half of holiday break. The beauty? I'm kid-free for half of holiday break. And Praise the LordT for my Positivity strength (thanks Clifton Strengths), I was able to quickly shift my mindset to: “Yay! I get to do whatever the fugg I want for a week!”
Before this year, that "whatever" looked like... working. No alarm clocks. Hanging out with friends here or there. But truth be told, I was mostly working.
Not anymore.
This year, I'm resting. Like, legit resting fo reals. No schedule. Letting days unfold. Maybe a last-minute trip. Celebrating New Year's Eve with people I love. Basking in this life I've created—not perfectly created. But intentionally curated by me. That's damn sure worth celebrating!
Rest Isn't Mindless
God had to choke me out a few times before I learned this one: rest isn't always just zoning out. Real rest stimulates emotions + boosts mental capacity + clarity; It's when I get my most powerful downloads.
Some of my best ideas, biggest revenue moves, sharpest problem-solving, + richest client pipelines? They landed while I was on my couch, by my fireplace, listening to music just being.
Rest refuels. It provides energy + clarity. It's my not-so-secret ingredient to start 2026 well. Not "strong." Not "big." Not "hit it hard + fast."
Well.
With clarity. With intention. With expansiveness.
The Meeting-to-Meeting Problem
You know how you log off from one meeting at 10:30A to immediately log into another? No decompression. No bathroom break. No time to capture notes, to-dos, + follow-ups. You just roll into the next meeting.
You’ve probably noticed how that first meeting comes with you. You don't leave it behind—you drag it into the next one. So, you're not bringing your full awareness, clarity, or presence. It's a watered-down version of you just so you can say, “I was there”.
This is exactly what happens when we don't rest in between a transition.
We roll from one year, one season, one project into the next without pause. Without reflection. Without space to land.
The Set-Up
Here's what's new for me this year: my rest (+ relaunch) is already on my 2026 calendar.
Vacation dates
Personal quarterly planning sessions
Team quarterly planning sessions
Quarterly rest days
This could look like booking a local co-working space for the day, a road trip to a nearby city. Maybe a staycation in an Airbnb. Hell, even swapping houses with a friend— just try getting out of your typical environment.
Changing your environment resets your brain. Unfamiliar territory forces you to think differently + be creative. It's reprogramming in real time! LIFE HACK!
Your Turn
What's one way you can commit to resting before the end of the year +/or in 2026?
If you could plan a relaunch for how you operate, what would that look like?
Dream big. Nothing's impossible. Allow yourself to dream. Have fun with it.
Write it down. Use stickers. Pull out your kids' paint. Get the crayons going. Record a voice memo. However you best express yourself—do that.
First rest, then relaunch.
